Think of an investment in your health, like you would an investment in your wealth. Similar to how small financial contributions pay big dividends over a lifetime, the same is true when you make healthy foods choices every day. Over a lifetime these can really start to add up, leading to a better quality of life now and later on.
The food choices you make each day matter, therefore, the sooner you start eating a healthy diet, the better. Food is powerful medicine! It’s doesn’t take much effort online to find substantial evidence on the healing properties found in fruits, vegetables, herbs, spices, nuts, grains, pasture raised eggs, and whole foods. The benefits of choosing natural whole foods begin to benefit your mind, body, and soul right away but also add to your potential for health and wellness in the future.
This is why choosing high quality foods over convenient fast processed foods
really make a difference in the long run. Reading labels at the grocery store, staying away from ingredients you can’t read, cooking at home, adding a variety of colors to your plate, avoiding ultra-processed foods, and not eating fast food are just a few small investments you can make in your health. Making these small sustainable daily changes can bring positive results to your health and overall wellness immediately and really begin to add up over your lifetime.
Try these simple healthy investments:
- Eating more whole foods
- Cooking your own food at home
- Reading and understanding what is in your food
- Adding more fruits and vegetables to your plate
- Eating the rainbow
- Reducing sugar consumption
- Adding herbs and spices to your food
- Avoiding ultra-processed foods (foods made in factories, cereals, snacks in a box)
- Drinking more water throughout the day
- Reducing daily caffeine intake
- Avoiding fast food
Think of an investment in your health, like an investment in your wealth.
When you think of your health like you do your wealth, it is not hard to see
how something can exponentially grow and benefit you in the future. The younger you start investing, even small amounts of money, the more it begins to significantly add up over your lifetime. The same is true with the food choices you make today. They matter to your future self! They matter a lot. It doesn’t have to be a drastic change because small changes add up over time.
Maybe if we considered the return on our “convenient” investment, we would think twice about eating fast food now and paying for that decision later. Afterall, ultra-processed convenient foods are made with addictive ingredients (the very reason you can’t stop eating them), chemicals, additives, loaded with salt, and full of sugar. When we eat them we surrender all control of the ingredients we are putting into our body. There is simply no return on this investment down the road.
In a world where information is everywhere and so vastly available, it’s unfortunate that its become so complicated to navigate. But these complications don’ t have to cause confusion. Together we can make eating healthy simple again. We can invest in ourselves now for a healthier future self.
The foods choices you make matter now and definitely later on. It doesn’t have to be complicated. In fact, I believe it’s actually quite simple… start by eating real food. You will get the greatest long-term return on your investment…health and wellness!
